Mera Peak & Hinku Valley is a fascinating trek and climbs with Sherpa Nomads, leading you to awesome scenic high Khumbu villages inhabited by Sherpa tribes a friendly people offering warm hospitality in the comfort of nice camping facilities on route Mera Peak & Hinku Valley trek and climb.

Mera Peak & Hinku valley offers tremendous views of Mt. Everest (8,848m / 29, 028ft) Lhotse (8,516 m-24,940 ft), Nuptse (7,855m-25,772 ft) Tharmarsarku ( 6,623 m / 21, 855 ft) Kwangde (6,011 m / 19,837 ft) Kusum Khanguru (6,373 m / 21,030 ft) holy peak of Khumbi-la (5,761 m / 19,012 ft) and as far world’s 5th highest Mt. Makalu (8,463 m / 27, 766 ft) as far towards world’s 3rd highest Mt. Kanchenjunga 8,586 m and many other smaller unnamed peaks. 

Sherpa Nomads Mera Peak & Hinku Valley trek starts with a sweeping overwhelming 35 minutes flight to Lukla at 2,820 meters high, the door to Everest, and another trek beyond the high Khumbu valley.

From Lukla adventure starts with a slow and gradual walk passing farm areas and villages to camp at Chutanga 3,430m, here with acclimatization heading higher towards Naulekh hills, a ridge top festooned with prayer flags at 4,450 meters, this top pass is Zatrwa Og, and then crossing again to Zatrwa-La at 4,600 meters, with views across Dudh Kosi river valley and of Karyolung and Lumding Himal, our adventure continues passing nice areas of Tuli Kharka 
Mousum Kharka and to Tagnag at 4,360 m with rest day with practice climb and then heading for the big climb to Mera Base Camp 5, 300 m.

 

After a few rest days in between and then climb Mera Summit at 6,461 m / 21, 1907 ft a straightforward climb with PD grade taken from French and Swiss Climbing classification, where our expert guide will support you to the top, although non-technical climb, however, care should be taken where ice axe and crampons required throughout the climb.

 

After a great moment feeling on top of the world heading back to Lukla passing through scenic hills, beautiful forested areas, and villages, reaching Lukla for the last overnight stop around the Everest region, next early morning transfer to Tenzing  / Hillary airport at Lukla for a scenic super flight back to Kathmandu with great service of Sherpa Nomads and its friendly crews.

Daily super views of Khumbu Himalaya & Mt. Everest with amazing landscapes, a country walk visiting traditional high hills Sherpa traditional villages, old culture, and custom, friendly locals, warm hospitality, an enchanting alpine forest of rhododendron, oaks, birch and pine trees, striking scenery of Himalayan mountain range, visiting the remote east of Everest region overlooking massive Himalaya from the summit of Mera Peak, with picturesque scenery.

On reaching Kathmandu international airport, received by Sherpa Nomads staff and transfer to respective hotel in the hub of Kathmandu, and then briefing / orientation program regarding Kathmandu, Mera Peak climb and Hinku valley trek.

Morning after breakfast our city tour guide will take you on a half day tour at places of interest around interesting old temples, monasteries and palaces, Kathmandu is full of World Heritage Sites, afternoon free and preparation for Mera Peak.

Mornings, taking a scenic flight to Lukla with overwhelming views of parallel mountain range, after 30 mins of great flight arriving at Lukla, with short break carry on trekking towards Chutanga for overnight stop passing through many farm lands a moderate walk with few short ups overlooking beautiful scenery along the route and then camping in complete isolation in the green alpine woods.

After the first camp of this adventure walk continues with a climb across Kalo Himal ridge line of Nau Lekh high rocky range, that separates Khumbu and Hinku valley and towards west of Makalu area, after a strenuous climb reaching the ridge top festooned with prayer flags at 4,450 meters, this top pass is Zatrwa Og, and then crossing again to Zatrwa-La at 4,600 meters, with views across Dudh Kosi river valley and of Karyolung and Lumding Himal, and then descend to camp at Tuli Kharka a summer pasture area.

Starting morning walk with downhill with grand view of Peak 43 and Kusum Kanguru peaks, and then reaching at Hinku valley area, with striking views of Mera Peak South Face walk continues through thick rhododendron and pine tree woodlands to reach a grazing area at Mosum Kharka for overnight camping.

Journey continues towards north leaving the tree lines behind, after a good trek reaching a wide open valley with a grazing land with scattered cattle herders huts and shades, and then coming at Gondishung 4,350 meters close to Tagnag area. Gondishung with an interesting 200 year old small Gompa, and then walking for another hour reaching Tagnag for an overnight stop, this place with temporary huts and shades with a small lodge and tea house.

An ideal place for rest and acclimatization before heading higher destination to Mera Peak, this place has several high hills for better views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

After a nice rest day journey continues with gradual walk with few ups and downs overlooking fabulous scenery of the surrounding hills and dales that fills this Hinku valley, and then over Charpatti Tal (lake) which is dammed by rocks and moraine, then with a climb for a short period leading to a descend to a large meadow at Dig Kharka to reach the camping site.

We have taken two more days to reach base camp from Thagnag instead which can be done in one day with long walk of 7 hours, keeping in mind in rapid altitude gain, morning walk leads over Mera glacier, and to an icy area for a while with a gentle descent to reach at Mera Base Camp after a good walk of 3-4 hours, with an afternoon at leisure.

From the base camp, we have allowed one more camp to make this climb a success and approachable in good time, morning walk follows across Mera la and then reaching at Mera High Camp in absolute serene and tranquil environment with only the sound of nature, afternoon free at leisure with lunch and preparation for the next early morning climb to Mera Peak, while our guides will scout the area for better routes and make the path and fixing ropes where necessary to safeguard from incidental accidents.

Starting early morning in the pre dawn, the main goal and target of this adventurous trip, walk leads with a serious climb without any technical problem, as this is a straightforward climb one can do it with the help of ski poles, however for safety measures one needs to be well equipped with crampons, ice axe, helmets and positive attitude, after a gruesome climb finally reaching Mera Peak summit top overlooking outstanding views panorama of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho- Oyu all the way to Mt. Kanchenjunga in the eastern horizon and array of adjoining peaks, after the climb and feeling high descend on the same route and trek all the way to base camp after feeling tired and exhausted but glad to have done this marvelous adventure climb of Mera peak.

An extra day as a contingency or reserve day in case of unfavorable weather conditions, if all goes well this spare can be used on the way before Lukla or at Namche Bazaar.

From the base camp return journey will be pleasant without the problem of altitude gain, although the walk leads to a few ups and downs and back to green vegetation and tree lines at Khotey a small cattle herders' shelter.

The morning walk continues leading to dense woodlands and with a steep climb to some small hills and continuing the walk on the nice grassy meadow on the gradual walk to reach the last camp of this trip at Thuli - Kharka.

Today is the last walk of this awesome journey Enjoy the long day trekking with a climb over the high ridge of Naulekh or Kalo Himal and Zatrwa Og with Zatrwa-La, after the strenuous climb and descending towards Chutanga in greenery and thick forest and then this long day walk ends at Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu, in Lukla enjoy the last dinner.

Early morning depart for Kathmandu from Lukla in 35 minutes scenic sweeping flight, on reaching Kathmandu airport transfer to respective hotels, afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.

Sherpa Nomads reserve this day as spare in Kathmandu, on account of flight delay and cancellation in Lukla due to unfavorable bad weather, if all goes well as per the itinerary one can book for another sightseeing tour or any trip for a day.

On your last day in Kathmandu as per your international flight time, our Sherpa Nomads staff will transfer you to the airport for the flight homeward bound after a remarkable life experience in the high Hinku valley and climb of Mera Peak with excellent service of Sherpa Nomads.
